There is a mindset that Tami & I fight to cultivate every day. It is a mindset of being unconquerable. Of uncommon strength, will, focus, determination, and fearlessness.
This mindset is taught to you while you are navigating your way through a 60 day Round of Insanity. Insanity, as you all know by now if you are paying attention at all ;-), is a favorite of Tami’s & myself. We love the fact that Insanity FORCES you to work harder than you ever thought possible on a daily basis. Its not a program for everyone & that is ok, to each their own, but Tami & I are Insanity Animals no doubt!
The very fact that you are forced to work HARD & push your limits daily, and then weekly with Insanity is what develops the “Insanity” Mindset. We grow used to what we do often. If you are pushing to your limits and seeing just how much you can take daily, your focus, mind, discipline, will, & ability to bear hardship grows stronger. Like a muscle that is exercised hard frequently grows stronger, your mind will do the same.
Navy Seal training develops this same mindset of getting used to hardship and pressing forward no matter what. With Insanity, its easy to ease up a bit. If you have done Insanity, you know that the warm up itself is a bear! What happens if you don’t ease up during the warm up. Then you decide you WILL NOT, no matter what, give in to fatigue, mental or physical during the workout. How would you feel? Then say you decide to do the same thing tomorrow. How would you feel? You will start to cultivate a feeling of mental & physical strength that will amaze you.
Tami & I concentrate on pushing our limits when we workout. We search inward and try to discover strength & conditioning that is buried deep. There is an incredible sense of accomplishment & freedom when you push past a self imposed limit, physical or mental. Seriously my friends, ALL of your limits are self imposed. All of them! Think about it…
Tami & I never use the term “Crushed it” when we talk about Insanity workouts. Why? Because we have NEVER “crushed” an Insanity workout! How hard you work with Insanity is entirerly up to you. You will never outgrow Insanity because you can always jump higher, squat deeper, move faster.
We have had some mind blowing workouts where we completed the Insanity workout with power, strength, & focus. During every workout we tread that thin line between pushing our limits and easing off. That is where the mind comes in. Will I give in? What would I do if I was on camera doing Insanity? What if Shaun T was standing right in front of me? I can tell you my friends, we push forward. There is no step backwards.
How do we apply this “Insanity” mindset to our nutrition? Don’t “give in” to impulse eating. Plan your nutrition and stick to it. Make sure you have the healthy foods you need in advance so there is not a time where you are “stuck” and need to eat junk food. The one hour we workout per day is the easy part, the time where people stall their Fitness progress is with their nutrition in the 23 hours following the 1 hour workout.
Tami is the by far the most nutritionally disciplined person I have ever met. She amazes me every day with her ability to focus 100% on her nutrition. It is rare when she has a cheat meal, and its always planned. Always, no exceptions. What does this nutritional discipline develop for you when youeat right day after day? Mental strength. The ability to do the right thing nutritionally even when no one is looking. That is the key to seeeing exceptional Fitness results. My gorgeous wife is aperfect example of this.
Me? I struggle with the overconsumption of carbs. There it is. I am a carbaholic. “Hi, my name is Mike and I have a problem with carbs.” Seriously, that is the biggest battle I fight on a daily basis with my nutrition. 95% of the time win the fight & my conditioning is proof of that. I still look at Tami with envy. She makes it look so easy! :-) Each day that I eat the way I am supposed to, I grow stronger until eventually my nutritional mental strength is adamantium. Unbreakable. NOTHING could get me to eat junk food or extra carbs. That is a very powerful mindset to develop. When cheats are “planned” rather than “impulses” YOU retain the power of your decision to eat that food. That is mental strength.
Put your back to the wall both Physically & Mentally and move forward. See what happens. I think you will be surprised and quite pleased with your Fitness progress.
Work on developing an “Insanity” mindset. Trust me, you will like the results…
Mike
